There are traditions in Barcelona that have never changed over the holidays:
Christmas Fairs:
The most famous and well-known is the fair of Santa Lucia, in the barrio Gótico, in front of the cathedral. It has taken place for over 250 years. We can find everything we need to decorate our houses. And we mustn´t forget the traditional “caganer”, a figure that must be part of ant nativity scene.
Another Christmas market that you mustn´t miss is found in front of the Sagrada Familia with nearly 200 stalls.
Els pastorets:
“Els pastorets” is a traditional theatre. It tell the story of Jesus through the story of some shepherds that, on their way to Bethlehem, they must go to different villages and overcome obstacles that the demons set out for them. It is a fun story that will keep adults and children amused. ayores.
The alive nativity:
It represents Jesus´ birth in a manger, but replacing the figures with real people. In Barcelona there is usually a small one in the Plaça Sant Jaume, but if you rent a car cheap in the airport or at the station and you are able to travel a few kilometres, there are villages that are really into this celebration and make the most of the old historic centre to recreate the era and the events. Some of the most well-known are in Corberà de Llobregat (33 minutes away by car), Premià de Dalt (30 minutes away by car), Prats del Rei (1 hour and 10 minutes away by car) or Pals (1 hour and 40 minutes away by car).
The Childhood Festivity:
It is now a Christmas tradition in Barcelona. Located in the precinct of Montjuïc, this event designed for children and teenagers is made up of different recreational, sporty and formative activities. Their main aim is to encourage the physical and mental development of the children and teenagers. Each of the activities is arranged for each age group and different themes: fashion, culture, sport, diet, and mostly the solidarity values are present in the workshops and stands.
Nice hotel and cheap are words that do not belong totheegr for the Manhattan area. I found the Holiday Inn on 57th to be a fairly decent price (for New York!) and the rooms were clean. It can be a bit of a walk to the main area of 42nd street, but you get to see more of the city.
