Alicante has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. In Summer are the hottest months (July and August), with temperatures which are always higher 30ºC. Luckily there is a cooling sea breeze keeps things pleasant.
June and September have temperatures average 27ºC, and May and October average is 26ºC. The rainfall begins in September, which is little or there isn’t in the summer months. Alicante enjoys more than 320 days of sunshine per year.
The best time to visit Alicante is from May to October, and the best way to do it is renting a car in Alicante airport to move for its surroundings.
In Alicante you have to discover a choice of clean white and sand beaches close to beach bars, restaurants and hotels. For example, Playa de San Juan, which is regarded by many as one of Spain’s best beaches, its facilities include lifeguards, water sports, a children’s playground, golf…and it’s easily accesible by car.
There is more to Alicante than hot sun and good beaches. These are the two must-see attractions:
- Castillo de Santa Bárbara: discover a host of rooms, tunnels, drawbridges and travel to the past from 9th to 13th centuries. The castle is easily accessible by road.
- Saint John’s Bonfires: come to Alicante next 24 June to see the city’s main fiesta, where big satirical artistic monuments of papier and wood are burned down. Quite a show!
Alicante is located on the east coast of Spain, around 40km south of Benidorm, 172km south of Valencia and 417km southeast of Madrid. It’s time to sun, it’s time to Alicante!
