Travelling with children suppose always a challenge for families. Children don’t consider breaks and long trips a pleasure as adults can do it. Travelling by car with children use to be a boring and tedious experience. It makes children tired.
If you want to travel with children in Spain and enjoy this experience, we suggest you some useful advices:
- Probably, the vast majority of tourists who come to Spain on holidays hire a car directly at the airport. Nowadays Spanish airports offer a wide range of possibilities depending on size, seats and, of course, price. Our first advice when travelling with children is: order your car seat in advance to be sure you will have it in your hired car on arrival. Rental companies use to supply the following options: baby seats from 0 to 1 year babies, baby seats from 1 to 3 years babies and child seats from 3 years old babies. Anyway, it will also depend on your baby seat. When travelling with children by car you must by Law have them restrained with a seat belt.
Children under the age of twelve are not allowed to travel in the front seat of a car. In that case, the police can stop you and fine you.
Adding a baby seat to your hired car will suppose an extra charge too. This extra charge will finally depend on the provider. They use to charge around 2.50€ to 6€ per day to add a baby seat with a maximum charge of about 42€ to 55€ per rental. Even some of them charge a baby seat deposit. Then if the baby seat is returned in the same condition as supplied, the deposit will be refunded.
The most important question regarding baby seat in your next car rental is: baby and booster seats must be fitted by the parent or guardian. Car rental staff is not permitted to help with the fitting of these items.
- Before starting your driving experience with children check your car carefully. You can motivate bigger children to prepare and check some essential thing (check the luggage, sunglasses, take the water or juices…). For example, the sun in Spain is very intense, especially in the summer and young children should not be out in it when possible. If they must be on the road for a long trip they must have high protective cream added frequently, sunglasses or inclusive a hat with a wide brim. Depending on the season use suitable clothes to go in car: in summer wear hats, flip-flops, sunglasses, sun cream and towel to cover the seats; and in winter, take some blankets and winter cloth.
It’s really important to have the baby’s kit with baby’s food and drink at hand!! Don’t forget it at the end of the boot.
- Remember to take always food and enough liquid (water, juice, soft drinks…) in your travels. On the road you can find unforeseen situations (traffic accidents, traffic jam…) which can delay or postpone your arrival. (more…)
