Discover Seville

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Situated on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a rich Moorish heritage, and used to be a prosperous port that carried out trade with the Americas.

The best idea to visit the city is rent a car in Seville´s airport.

Seville

Seville

The streets and squares in the historic quarter of the capital of Andalusia are lively and busy. They treasure many constructions that have the World Heritage designation, and many districts are full of traditional culture, like Triana and La Macarena.

Seville is a prominent business and service centre in the south of Spain and has many hotels distributed all over the city which enable visitors to discover endless attractions. Museums and art centres, theme parks, cinemas, theatres and clubs are some of the many leisure options that a great city like Seville holds. Without forgetting, of course, the numerous terraces, inns and bars where visitors can practise one of the most deeply-rooted and tasty traditions in the city: “Going out for tapas”.

Ibiza, discover the magic island

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011
The natural beauty of its countryside, a coastline characterised by a large number of beaches and small coves, some of which can only be reached by sea. Sea beds with prairies of Posidonia in the National Park of las Salinas, whose ecological richness was recognised when it was named World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. A wealth of possibilities which will doubtless ensure visitors have a pleasant stay on the islands. One mustn’t forget the recently finished cycle routes which include road cycling and mountain bike routes stretching over a distance of 700km. Further features include the building of two sea stations, those of Santa Eulària and Sant Josep-Sant Antoni.
Is worthwhile hire a car at Ibiza airport and discover the island.

Mykonos

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Mykonos is a  example of unique Cycladic architecture set around a unique fishing-village bay. Totally whitewashed organic cube-like buildings fit closely together to form a type of haphazard maze of narrow alley ways and streets. The earthen colors of the bare hills which surround the town’s gleaming whiteness is set between the aura of an incredibly blue sky and even deeper blue sea. Is worthwhile hiring a car at Mykonos to discover also the island. Don´t miss it!

Mykonos

Mykonos

Its many well preserved windmills and lots of tiny red-roofed churches adds a flavor of culture and custom to the scene, enhanced even further by many museums and the historical ancient site of Delos.

These friendly and open people, the locals have a healthy understanding of what it means to have a good time. Put this together with all the island’s other qualities and it is no wonder Mykonos has been often named “the jewel” of the Aegean Sea.

As well as catering to the demands of its summer guests with an infrastructure that has been well developed over the years, an off-season tourist industry has also emerged making it possible to visit in comfort during the non-summer months. The mediterranean climate is perfect for that. Frequent air and sea connections together with heated rooms and good bars in and around the main city, allow the adventurous traveler to properly experience the island’s natural beauty.

When the crowds have departed, it is then that Mykonos can best be enjoyed as the tiny Cycladic fishing village it has always been.

Easter in Bilbao

Monday, April 11th, 2011

The Brotherhood members of Bilbao will exhibit, yet another year, one of the most important cultural-artistic and religious treasures of the Peninsula and, undoubtedly, the most oustanding in the Bay of Biscay. Is worthwhile hiring a car at Bilbao airport or Bilbao city   to discover the region also. In the province of Biscay, the Holy Week celebrations held in Bilbao compete with Bermeo´s celebrations as regards the dating of the same because both cities battled in the year 1500 for the control of the land of Biscay.

Easter in Bilbao

Easter in Bilbao

The most important pieces that can be seen on the streets of Bilbao are the carvings and sculptures that date back to 1500 and 1600, such as “ Nuestra Señora de la Soledad” ( Our Lady of Solitude) and the “Santo Cristo de la Villa” ( Sacred Christ of the Town). There are other pieces of high value, such as the “Coronación de Espinas” (Crowing of the Storms) or the “Cruz a Cuestas” ( The Cross on one´s back), wich are not as ancient, but nevertheless are extremely beautiful and are rated as one of the most important pieces in the State.

The celebrations starts 15th of April till 24th of April.

Rowing Sunday

One of the events that generates more expentacy at this time of the year, is the celebration of the Ingenieros-Deusto Rowing Race, wich takes place on the 17th of April. This competition coincides, on purpose, with the procession of Palm Sunday. Its logo is as follows: “Domingo de Ramos, Domingo de Remos” ( Palm Sunday, Rowing Sunday). This indirect message drags both the people from Bilbao and foreigners to a competition that commenced in 1981, as a resulto the sporting Challenger that the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros ( School of Engineering of Bilbao) presented to the University of Deusto, both being the most ancient university centres of the city, with a back ground of over one Century each.

This competition is a completely amateur university rowing event, developed within an ambience of healty competitiveness, whose sole objective is that of registering the name of the winner in the history of the competition. The modality chosen is the professional rowing bech, and specically, the Olympic outriggers, consisting of eight rowers and a helmsman.

The regatta is held in the estuary along a four nautical mile route, 7.408 metres, wich is 628 metres longer than the Oxford-Cambridge regatta. It commences at 1.00 pm from Portu dock in Erandio, and ends approximately 25 minutes later opposite the Town Hall of Bilbao.

European seaside hotels, don´t miss them

Il Pardini’s Hermtage, Tuscany, Italy
The Isola del Giglio is a wonder of flora and fauna – peregrine falcons, kestrels, buzzards, gorgeous wild flowers. This former hermitage lies far from any village or coastal resort. Bedrooms are simple and the doubles have stunning sea views. . Paint, ride a donkey, or visit a beach on the other side. Dinner is a formal affair of stiff white table linen and hushed conversation. Check our rent a car prices for Italy
La Chiusa delle More Peschici, Puglia, Italy
The Italians flock here in August. Out of season, however, the beaches and fish restaurants are wonderfully uncrowded; on the seafront, you can watch the fishermen sort their catch. The 16th-century farmhouse on the Puglian coast is 500m from the sea: climb up to the terrace from where you can drink in the views with your wine. The B&B rooms, in a small block to one side, are light, cool and simply furnished. The olive oil and vegetables from the kitchen garden supply the restaurant which serves typical Puglian dishes and the local wines.
Armonia Bay Hotel, Samos
Nearby Kokkari got the tourist bug first, but here you have lushness and a sense of privilege in the only hotel overlooking the lovely beach, which is beloved of sun-worshippers, naturists and windsurfers. The building is modern, with a terrace out front. Wicker recliners, fan palms, pink oleanders and an infinity pool lend style. The bedrooms are comfortable and stylish with marble floors and bathrooms and sea-facing balconies.
Ma Maison de Mer, Aquitaine, France
Sink into a cream sofa with a chilled après-plage beer and soak up the cool, nautical chic of this 1920s hotel just 150m from the beach in St Palais-Sur-Mer, western France. Recently renovated, its white wooden floors draw attention to the vibrant paintings on the walls. Other charming touches – seashell collages, knitted cushions, a model gaff-rigged yacht – enhance the house. The same soothing shades are used in the bedrooms, which have seagrass floors, sumptuous bedspreads and white linen. The four-course set menu changes daily, but expect plenty of seafood and superb quality. Check our car hire prices for France
Hôtel La Jabotte, Cap d’Antibes, France
Why is La Jabotte so special? Is it the courtyard scented with oranges or the bedrooms the colours of jewels? Or is it Claude and Yves, Belgians who came to the Cap d’Antibes one summer and fell for a small, faded hotel. Today, it is an exquisite jewellery box, an explosion of colour. Tucked down a side street, 60m from the beach, are polished stone floors and cherry-red walls, pots of roses and bright parakeets, a wagging Westie, lavender and glasses of champagne. Saunter into Old Antibes or down to the free sandy beach and your own parasol.
Beyaz Yunus Faralya, Ölu Deniz, Turkey
It may be only 12km from the busy little Ölu Deniz resort, but you couldn’t feel more secluded than at Beyaz Yunus Faralya. Cleverly tucked away in a clearing at the end of a bumpy track, the hotel’s seven rooms are enclosed on one side by the dark green forest and on the other by the turquoise Mediterranean.
Huerta las Terrazas, Andalucía, Spain
Climb through honeysuckle, mimosa, oleander and cypress to reach the cool, blue pool. In the bedrooms modern design blends with traditional furnishings. Seagrass matting, white walls and soft bed linen complement dark wood furniture, rich cushions and hints of Morocco. Breakfasts are from the organic fruit and veg garden, while a spring feeds both pool and taps. Swim, surf or ride on the beaches, explore nearby Tarifa, enjoy a massage or watch the birds migrating to Africa. Hotel Sant Roc, Costa Brava, Spain
This quiet little hotel is a family affair where guests are treated like old friends. The setting in Calella de Palafrugell is marvellous. It perches at the edge of a cliff, surrounded by pine, olive and cypress. The rooms are light and pretty with details hand-painted by an artist friend. A path from the hotel winds down to the beach, and there are longer walks around the bay. With French-Catalan owners you can expect something special from the kitchen: fresh fish, is a speciality.
Villa Annette, Rabac, Croatia
An oasis of contemporary calm set against the ancient landscape of Istria’s sweeping coast, Villa Annette has all the hallmarks of the classic boutique hotel. An infinity pool is shielded by 100 young olive trees. The minimalism – cream leatherette armchairs, gleaming modern stone floors – is enlivened by warm colours from paintings and rugs. Feted for its cuisine, the hotel is one of the pioneers of the Istrian Slow Food movement. You can even sign up for a Slow Food weekend and learn all about the local fresh ingredients that go into Croatian-Italian cooking.
Monte Velho Nature Resort Algarve, Portugal
This stylish resort is near one of the best surfing beaches on the Algarve – the rolling breakers can be seen from the house. Polished floors, Indian beds, floaty fabrics, bold art, sofas with plump cushions, warm lighting and music all add to the sense of ease. Suites have terraces, complete with hammocks and rattan chairs – some have mezzanines, others wood-burning stoves and all have sitting rooms. Get to the beach by donkey, take a surfing lesson or a boat trip and return for a massage, yoga or tai chi. Check our car hire prices for Portugal
