Obviosly you can’t forgot to visit the city of Salamanca. That’s a city in the North West Spain, seeped in history and culture. Its Old City received the UNESCO World Heritage Site tag in 1988. Most of the old town attractions are near the Plaza Mayor, the large central square of the city. This square itself, dating back to 1729, is one of the best Baroque square in all Spain.
In Salamanca, the concept of time is relative. The Catedal Vieja (Old Cathedral) dates back to the 12th Century, whereas the next door Catedral Nueva (New Cathedral) has a history dating back to the 16th Century as well. The other monuments worth a visit include Convento de San Esteban, the La Casa de las Conchas (House of Shells), studded with about 350 sandstone shells and dating back to the 15th century, the Capilla de la Vera Cruz, a Baroque church with Renaissance facade that houses countless works of art, and many more.
While it is possible to cover the old city on foot, It makes sense to rent a car, since there are many attractions in the suburbs, and many of the shopping and accommodation options are a little distance away from the old city.
