Aberdeen Airport, known locally as Dyce Airport opened on July 28th 1934 at it?s current location on the north west outskirts of Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland. In 1939 to aid the war effort the airport was taken over by the RAF although a few civil flights continued, mainly to the Northern Isles. After the war there was a return to the gradual expansion of scheduled services from Dyce Airport until the arrival of the oil industry during the 1960s. In the summer of 1967 Aberdeen Airport began handling the first offshore helicopter flight by Bristow and a more rapid growth of services followed.

During 1977 a new passenger terminal was opened financed by a £10 million investment programme by BAA into Aberdeen Airport. A £2.5 million common departure lounge development was completed in 1992, followed by the Broomfield Terminal in 1998. More recently in 2004 a third helicopter base was added to the airport site. Aberdeen is the largest oil-related centre in Europe and the airport is the world?s largest commercial heliport, with more than 37,000 rotary wing movements serving around 468,000 passengers each year.

Aberdeen airport consists of four runways, four terminals; a main passenger terminal, two terminals dedicated to North Sea helicopter operations and a terminal primarily for oil company charter flights. This modern busy airport handles 2.5 million passengers per year to approximately 30 destinations throughout Europe including Amsterdam, Belfast, Bergen, Copenhagen, Dublin, Esjberg, Faroe Islands, Groningen, the Orkney Islands, Paris, Stavanger and the Shetland Islands.

Within the main passenger terminal there is a range of services provided to enhance your journey including a currency exchange, numerous cash dispensers, wireless internet access, comprehensive baby care facilities, a comfortable departure lounge, a smart Business lounge with related services exclusive to the Business Class traveller and a number of car hire companies. The official opening hours for Aberdeen Airport are 5am to 10:30pm daily. Arrivals and check-in are located on the ground floor with the check-in desks on the left hands side of the main concourse.

There is easy access to Aberdeen Airport by road with clear signposts directing the route from the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road. The airport is situated 7 miles from Aberdeen city centre. The main car park is located in front of the terminal building for short and long stay parking. The train services for Aberdeen and Inverness stop at the local station at Dyce, which is a short taxi ride from the airport. The main line station in Aberdeen city centre has frequent services to all areas of Scotland and England. Regular bus services operate from the airport to Aberdeen city centre with a single fare of £1.30. Taxis are also available from the terminal forecourt and are operated by Rainbow Airport Taxis.
