Almeria is situated between Granada and Murcia on the south east coast of Spain. The provincial capital city nestles between the mountains of the Sierra de Gador and the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors can gain access to a selection of historical attractions in the centre of this Andalusian city, most notable of which are the 16th Century Almeria Cathedral, the neoclassical Church of San Sebastian and the attractive 17th Century arcaded square of Plaze Vieja. The prominence held by art and culture in Almeria is illustrated in the numerous museums and galleries located throughout the city, fine exhibitions are found at the Museum of Almeria, the Museo de Geología de la Cuenca, the Museo Arqueológico (Archaeological Museum), the Museo de Pintura (Museum of Paint) and the Centro de Arte Museo de Almería (Central Art Gallery).
The principle city of Almeria is positioned on a gorgeous Mediterranean bay that offers visitors and city dwellers the opportunity to enjoy a diverse array of beaches. The main beach of San Miguel is a short walk from the splendid city centre and it provides a vast range of facilities along one of the widest coastal promenades on the Iberian Peninsular.
