Almeria is situated in the south east of the Costa Calida, a prime position from which to access any destination within the region and across Spain. The province has an abundance of splendid coastal resorts and inland villages that are situated in a diverse range of landscapes including, fine sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, rich pine forests, arid desert-like areas and impressive mountainous regions.
To the east of Almeria’s capital city lies the hilltop, coastal town of Mojacar, the largest and most popular tourist resort in this south eastern corner of the Iberian Peninsular. Mojacar boasts a rich and vibrant history that traces back over 4000 years, making this the oldest settlement in the region. This ancient town, positioned on the lower slopes of the Sierra Cabrera mountain range, offers visitors a range of attractions that reflect the culture and traditions dominant in the regions past and present including an impressive Moorish fortress.
Visitors to Almeria discover a number of gorgeous locations west along the coast from the city centre that provide fine beaches and a comprehensive range of services to meet the growing demands of the tourist industry. Aguadulce is conveniently located approximately 13 kilometres from the capital and is a popular destination throughout the year. Further along the coast is Roquetas de Mar, a picturesque fishing village with a busy harbour and excellent beaches. A short distance along the Costa del Almeria is Almerimar, a splendid resort that offers beaches, promenades and marinas, all with world-class facilities.
To the north of Almeria is the Tabernas Desert, an area of outstanding natural beauty that is the location for a number of villages including Alboloduy, Gador, Gergal, Tabernas and Santa Cruz. The Cabo de Gata Natural Park, situated 70 kilometres from the desert, also offers breathtaking views in a landscape covered with dunes, volcanic rocks and salt flats.
