The ancient fishing village of Cala Ratjada is situated in the north eastern corner of Mallorca within the stunning municipality of Capdepera. This popular resort is located approximately 78km from the island’s capital city, Palma and within a short distance of a wide range of destinations across the Balearic Islands. For a huge number of visitors to Cala Ratjada the gorgeous Mediterranean coastal region is the town’s major attraction. The most dominant features along the coast include the second largest harbour in Mallorca and numerous perfect, idyllic beaches. The main tourist beaches of Playa de Son Moll and Cala Agulla are conveniently situated close to the town centre, providing a vast range of facilities from, arguably, the finest beaches on the island. The rich and vibrant history of the north east of Mallorca is reflected in a number of buildings and monuments located in and around Cala Ratjada. A short distance from the town is the most prominent landmark in the district, the 13th Century Castle of Capdepera. This dramatic medieval fortress lies on the outskirts of the nearby town of Capdepera and is the oldest castle on the island. Closer to the centre of Cala Ratjada is Casa March. This palatial, distinctly Mallorcan home is renowned for it’s superb gardens and impressive collection of modern sculpture, including pieces by Rodin and Henry Moore. Public access is available to the gardens at Casa March via a pre-booked visit that can be arranged through the tourist office in Cala Ratjada. Alternatively, the gardens and a number of sculptures are clearly visible from the road outside Casa March.
Also worth mentioning among the attractions in the area are the lighthouse of Capdepera and the fantastic Caves of Canyamel, near the town of Arta. Both of these destinations are an excellent opportunity for visitors to enjoy the variety and diversity displayed all around the Balearic Islands.
