Direct Charter Assurance from Star for Cheap Car Hire Ibiza Airport

Over the past fifty years Ibiza Airport has grown from a small military airfield into one of the busiest airports in the Balearic Islands. Following an initial attempt, which lasted from 1949 to 1951, the airport opened for regular flights to Palma and Barcelona on 1st April 1958. From this point Ibiza Airport has developed from it’s prime location in the south east of the island at Es Codolá, just 7km from the capital, Ibiza Town.

This airport is the first point of arrival for 95% of the visitors to the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera with over 4 million passengers a year passing through the gates. These passengers arrive on one of the huge numbers of daily, direct and chartered flights to and from the other airports within the archipelago and all the major cities across Europe. Twenty two flights an hour are managed on a runway measuring 2,800 by 45 metres assisted by an apron that has 25 bays for commercial aircraft. Future plans to expand Ibiza Airport to meet the predicted tourist demands, include the construction of a new general aviation terminal, a new control tower, a car park for hire cars, two new rapid exit taxiways, and the adaptation of the current taxiway for use as an emergency runway.

Currently, this modern airport offers passengers a wide range of connections to destinations across the island. Daily bus services are available from the airport to Ibiza Town departing every hour between 7am and 10:35pm, with a journey time of around 30 minutes. Alternatively, taxis are conveniently situated outside the airport terminal building. A taximeter with two fare configurations is standard on Ibiza; Urbanas, for journeys within the same town; Interurbanas, is appropriate for journeys between towns. The minimum Urban fare is €1.90, with € 0.75 charged per kilometre covered and a minimum Interurban fare is €2.80, with € 0.80 charged per kilometre covered. Suitcases or luggage incur an extra charge of €0.40 and an airport supplement of €1.10 is also standard.

The smart halls of Ibiza Airport’s terminal building feature a comprehensive selection of amenities that includes a large number of bars and restaurants, and superb shopping facilities. Access is also available 24 hours a day to bank services, a number of ATMs and a currency exchange.
