Discovering Lanzarote

Direct Charter Assurance from Star for Cheap Car Rental Lanzarote

Lanzarote has an abundant array of attractive features and dynamic qualities. Visitors to the island are spoiled for choice as there are over 250 kilometres of coastline and more than 100 beaches, which provide a comprehensive range of services throughout the year. The volcanic origins of Lanzarote have created stunning natural features all over the island, of which, the Atlantida Tunnel is the most famous.

Atlandida Atlantida is the world's longest lava tunnel and it measures 8km, connecting the Corona volcano with the sea. This incredible cave system, which historically provided refuge from pirates and slave traders now contains two of the island’s most popular tourist attractions, the five thousand year old Cueva de los Verdes and the Jameos del Agua. Visitors to the Jameos are offered a spectacular combination of natural and manmade architecture created by Lanzarote’s most influential artist, Cesar Manrique. The Jameos contains volcanic passages, underground grottoes and has a beautiful, subterranean lake at the centre, which is inhabited by a rare species of blind, albino crab. The area offers visitors a full range of excellent facilities including a lakeside restaurant and bars, swimming pools and a concert hall that has been created within the caves.

Also highly recommended is Timanfaya National Park, which is located in the south west of the island. This stunning area contains five thousand hectares of volcanic landscape that includes; the Mountains of Fire where there are over three hundred craters and the Valley of Tranquillity with stunning beaches of black lava. The southernmost tip of the island is the location for Playa Blanca, a tiny fishing village that has flourished into a popular tourist resort.

Playa Blanca boasts golden beaches, which are bordered by a charming promenade lined with shops, bars and restaurants. East along the coast from Playa Blanca is Punta de Papagayo. The region contains a dramatic landscape consisting of volcanic ash, fine white sands, crystal clear waters, and a number of secluded bays and coves.
