La Alcazaba • A major landmark in the area is the impressive walled fortress La Alcazaba. Built by the Moors in the 11th Century on the site of a Roman Fortress, dating back to 700 AD, Alcazaba is positioned on the Gibralfaro Hill offering magnificent views across the city and harbour.
• The ruins of a 2nd Century roman amphitheatre are found below the entrance to Alcazaba and are currently under construction.
• Above Alcazaba is Gibralfaro Castle which was completed in the 15th Century by the Muslim King Yusuf.

cathedral • Dating from 1528 the city’s cathedral was built on the site of the mosque, which remained after the expulsion of the Moors from Spain.
• Inside can be found the Cathedral Museum containing a rich display of sculpture and paintings. Located next to the cathedral on Plaza del Obispo is the Diocesal Museum that houses a substantial collection of religious artefacts.
