The vibrant history of Majorca can be dated back to 7200 BC when the first recorded settlements existed on the island. In parallel with mainland Spain, by 123 B.C Roman occupation dominated Mallorca Majorca, followed by the Moors at the beginning of the 10th century, with a return to predominantly Spanish control in 1229. These diverse origins are reflected in the architecture and culture throughout Majorca. The capital of the island, La Palma, boasts an abundance of attractive features, the most outstanding of which, is the Gothic Cathedral, or “La Seu.”

It was built on the site of an ancient mosque and dominates the view of La Palma. Hanging inside is a wrought-iron sculpture by the amazing Spanish artist, Gaudi. Located next to the Cathedral, in the old Arabic quarter, are the Moorish castle, Palau de l’Almudaina and the fabulous Arab Baths. |

History and architecture are easily combined at La Llotja; a cultural centre housed in a 15th century structure and at the Museu De Majorca; a converted 17th century palace that had been built on the foundations of one of Majorca's earliest Moorish houses. Manacor is Majorca’s second largest town and is situated inland on the east of the island. The local tradition of pearl cultivation continues to be the main industry in Manacor. The most significant building in the town is the catholic church Esglesia dels Delors de Nostra Senyora that replaced the ancient mosque. |

On the southwest coast, 15km west of Palma is the main tourist resort of Magaluf. The town offers fine sandy beaches and a comprehensive range of facilities to the millions of visitors who arrive each year. Valldemossa, the highest village on Mallorca is in a prime position from which to view the stunning region. A Carthusian monastery in which Chopin spent the winter of 1838 is Valldemossa’s main attraction and nearby in Son Matge there are excavated Prehistoric sites. |
