Located on the southeastern coast of Spain looking out to the Mediterranean Sea is the beautiful town of Torrevieja. An 18th century port boasting 20kms of gorgeous coastline and six large beaches this is a vibrant town in the far south of Valencia. • The largest salt lagoons in Europe surround Torrevieja and dominate
the local economy. Salt mining began during the Roman era and continues
today for exportation around the world.
• As well as supporting substantial employment and trade links
the stunning 'Salterns of Torrevieja' are being conserved as a nature
reserve that is home to a massive diversity of bird and plant life,
including a large number of flamingos.
• The Museum of Sea and Salt reflects the
historical significance of the salt industry in Torrevieja. It
is currently housed at a temporary location on Patricio Perez
Street and open to the public Tuesdays to Saturdays.
• This significant collection will shortly be on permanent
display at the Eras de la Sal which is a popular ancient salt
yard complex.

The 14th century Torre del Moro was one of the first buildings erected
in the town. Originally used by the moors to scan the coastline for
marauding Barbary pirates the watchtower is now set in parkland and
offers visitors panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
• The town 's patron saint, the image of the Immaculate Conception,
is worshipped at the neoclassical Church of the Immaculate Conception.
• Originally constructed in 1798 the church is host to a number
of festivals held throughout the year in Torrevieja of which the procession
on the night of Good Friday is the most notable.
