Valencia, one of Spain’s largest cities, is situated in the middle of the eastern coast 352 km from Madrid.
Originally founded by the Romans in 138 BC Valencia has been visited by both the Visigoths and Moors who have left their mark on the city during their periods of occupation. Valencia is the principle city in the area and has been the economic and cultural capital of the Mediterranean since the 14th century.

• The most noticeable feature in Valencia is the Cathedral complex, which dominates the city centre. • Valencia is described in local folk songs as the land of flowers which is superbly illustrated in the plentiful parks and gardens across the city including the Botanical Gardens which show a variety of exotic plants; the 18th century Jardines de la Alameda and Jardines de Monforte; and the stunning Real Gardens that have beautiful cultures of roses, large pine-woods and the ruins of an ancient palace.
