Spain tourist information
Nowadays Spain is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Tourism in Spain was developed during the 70s, when this country became a popular place for summer holidays, especially for tourists from the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Scandinavia.
Since then summer resorts were built all around Spain generating the most income for the Spanish economy. Our visitors can enjoy a mild climate during the whole year and extensive sandy beaches in the Mediterranean area and both archipelagoes: the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. These areas have been attracting tourists mainly from the cold territories of the North Europe for decades.
But today, in addition to the summer tourism, other modalities have been developed in these areas including famous cities as Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid or Seville. Spain offers the visitor, apart from sun and beach holidays, a wide range of tourism like cultural and monumental tourism congresses, sports, fun tourism as well as the excellent gastronomy.
Discover Spain by car.
We suggest you hire your car to explore Spanish destinations. That’s a fabulous way to discover a country where you can plan your own itinerary. This way will give you the freedom of the road to explore it, just simply as flying into your destination airport, pick-up your hire car and you are away.
If you are looking for sun and beach holidays, usually located in the Mediterranean coastal area, we recommend you the following Spanish coasts from the north to the south:
- The Costa Brava, the Costa Daurada and the Costa del Maresme in Catalonia including famous resorts like Salou and the city of Barcelona.
-The Costa del Azahar, the Costa de Valencia and the Costa Blanca, considered one of the most developed coastal areas with Benidorm as the leading summer city of Spain.
- The Costa Calida in Murcia and the Mar Menor.
- The Costa de Almería, the Costa Tropical, the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz all in the Andalusian Community, with worldwide summer towns like Marbella, Malaga or Cadiz.
Also the volcanic Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands are considered main resorts for sun and beach holidays involved in the development of nightlife.
But if you are looking for a cultural experience don´t hesitate to plan your trip to some of the most popular destinations of cultural tourism in Spain. If you don´t like driving, decide which member of the party is going to be doing the driving. If going on a long-stretch of the journey, take plenty of breaks.
At the moment Spain is the country with most World Heritage sites designated by UNESCO along with Italy. Due to its historical importance Spain has remarkable cities like: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Granada, Cordoba or Toledo. In addition there are other important cultural places in the North of Spain, usually called Green Spain, due to its lush green landscape like La Coruña, Santiago de Compostela, Santander, Oviedo, Bilbao or San Sebastian.
