Burgos Tourist Information

Burgos is located in a privileged geographical position, half way between Madrid and the French border, with cities such as Bilbao, Santader, Logroño and Valladolid, very nearby.

We encourage you to visit Burgos and discover some of their jewels:

- Atapuerca: the city of Burgos is a few kilometres away from the prehistoric site of Atapuerca, one of the Spanish treasures, which was declared World Heritage.

- Burgos Cathedral: beyond all doubt, one of their architectural masterpieces, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The cathedral was initially a Romanesque temple, but later in the time was built following a Norman French Gothic style. Such beauty and incredible filigree works can be admired in the spires of the towers, in the exterior of the High Constable Chapel, as well as a long list of exceptional works of art in its interior (tombs of El Cid and Doña Jimena, the choir…).

Discovering Burgos by car

You can also find fantastic examples of civil architecture all around Burgos city like Casa de Miranda, Casa de Angulo or the most remarkable Casa del Cordón, where the Catholic Monarchs received Christopher Columbus after his return from his second trip to the New World.

You can largely enjoy historical, cultural and architectural Burgos, but we invite you to visit the whole province by following interesting routes to the hearth of Castilla-Leon. From this starting point, by car, follow one of these routes which introduce you from Burgos along the bank of the Arlanza River, discovering the visitor medieval churches and convents, feudal castles and Renaissance palaces (Lerma, Santo Domingo de Silos, Quintanilla de las Viñas).

Take part of the Pilgrim´s Road to Santiago de Compostela which goes across the province. It’s plenty of an artistic and cultural route lined with churches, hermitages and pilgrim hospitals (Belorado, Villafranca Montes de Oca, Castrogeriz…).

Or, just following these routes by car, discover Burgos gastronomy, based on an excellent Spoon Cuisine. Complement your meals with some of the excellent wine, under the prestigious Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero (Aranda, Peñaranda and Roa, all within the region of Duero).
