The Spanish island of El Hierro, nicknamed Isla del Meridiano, belongs to Canary Islands and its located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. This is the smallest and farthest south and west of the Canary archipelago. El Hierro is derived from the Guanche language toponym of Hero, which was transformed into Hierro (iron in Spanish).
