We are now in the favourite season of all those who enjoy winter sports, especially that star sport: skiing
This year isn´t being a good year for snow, but the Pyrenees mountain range is one of the few that isn´t suffering this winter drought. Baqueira-Beret is one of the most important ski-resorts in Spain, it is a good reference for quality, it has got some very new generation chair-lifts. Long slopes and for everyone, many of them surrounded by forests; varied areas spread out over two slopes which usually ensures good snow. The new underground parking has bettered the entrance. To get there you can rent a car at Barcelona´s airport, afterwards you have got three options:
- START AT BARCELONA (340 km)
On the motorway AP-2 Barcelona – Lleida > N-230 Alfarrás – Benabarre – Pont de Suert – Val d’Aran.
- START AT BARCELONA (323 km)
On dual carriageway A-2 Barcelona – Cervera – Tarrega > C-53 Balaguer > C-26 Alfarrás > N-230 a Benabarre – Pont de Suert – Val d’Aran.
- START AT BARCELONA – DESTINATION PALLARS SOBIRÀ (293 km)
On dual carriageway A-2 Barcelona – Cervera – Agramunt > Artesa de Segre > Tremp – Pobla de Segur – Sort – Esterri d’Aneu – Port de la Bonaigua.
Enjoy skiing with the family. If you prefer to snowboard, this ski-station has a snowpark for all levels. Cafés, restaurants, shops, nurseries, everything to be able to make the most of some unforgettable days.
You mustn´t forget to visit the Valle de Arán, its villages and landscapes. It is the only valley with an Atlantic air to it in Spain. The Val d´Aran preserves and maintains its very rich artistic-cultural heritage. It consists of a number of churches: Salardú, Arties, Vielha, Bossost, among others. Of a complete architectural unity, the villages of the valley are made up of buildings made of stone, slate and wood. The churches that most stand out are Romanesque or Gothic.
Another atractive thing about this area is the richness of its food. Their gastronomy is very influenced by the French, as it is bordering the valley, but it also maintains its traditional dishes like the well-known “Olla aranesa”.
