Albacete city is located in the hearth of Castilla-La Mancha county, which shelters the home land of the most daring and international literary knight: Don Quixote of La Mancha. Anyway, you can choose to take the train to Albacete Railway Station and then, enjoy a peaceful day trip. We encourage you to visit some car routes across La Mancha, as Don Quixote Route, crossing the plains of La Mancha or walking through the La Mancha Lagoon, one of the areas with more concentration of air fauna in Spain, or go to the prehistoric caves (Los Casares, Fuencaliente, Alpera o Nerpio). We specially recommend you the Jucar valley route. It takes the traveller into the north of the province, making its way through forest, woods of oak trees and fields. This route takes the visitor to a series of villages situated along the Jucar River, like Alcala del Jucar, with fantastic river views from a town located up in the natural Jucar River canyon.
Finally dont forget taste Albacete gastronomy. Based on the best traditional cooking from La Mancha region, you can eat gazpachos with their tortas, migas, ajo mataero or desserts generally inspired by nuns like the flores manchegas, suspiros or the typical miguelitos from La Roda.
